About Stephanie McKay
Stephanie McKay is a recording artist and educator. She performs soul music with tons of heart and passion. Music has long been a driving force in her life. As a child, learning music helped her develop patience for other academics. Now as an educator, she truly values music as a learning tool. In fact, much of her work as an educator focuses on creativity. The arts are a way to open one’s mind to the world, after all.
Her career has spanned over 20 years, during which time she has collaborated with artists including Anthony Hamilton, Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def), Talib Kweli, DJ Spinna, Toshi Reagon and Big lovely, Jacques Schwarz-Bart, Katalyst, Tricky, Carl Hancock-Rux, Kelis, and numerous others. Stephanie is also a 2021 recipient of the Creative Entrepreneur Fellowship sponsored by the Arts and Business Council Of Boston. Her new single “Phenomenon” is part of the global music compilation to stand against systemic racism Black lives- from Generation to Generation
What I Do
I am a mother, arts educator, explorer, recording artist, advocating for equity in education through the arts. I believe in creativity as a way of life. I believe in the freedom of self-expression as an act of liberation and self-actualization. As an educator, I am currently a specialist enrichment teacher at the Acera School, (The Massachusetts School for Science, Creativity and Leadership where as a constructivist I practice co-creating multidisciplinary art projects with students. My greatest joy is holding space for children to follow their natural curiosity and imagination so that they may discover their individual voice. In my music, I am inspired by the stories of the people and the environment around me where I observe the stories of pain, joy, wishes, and hopes of the people in the community and our shared humanity. With my music I hope to inspire people with songs of love, hope, joy and resilience. Buy my latest single ” Phenomenon” to support our global stand against racism Black Lives- From Generation to Generation.
